A couple of weeks ago I was watching the first Tarzan movie to co-star Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan entitled "Tarzan the Ape Man." I'm sure I'd seen the film before, although many, many years ago, but still was surprised and a bit titillated by a little conversation between Jane (O'Sullivan) and her father (played by the distinguished C. Aubrey Smith). Jane has arrived in Africa unexpectedly to join her father on an expedition. Her surprised father shows her to a sleeping room and sits talking with her as she settles in. She puts her belongings away and then begins to disrobe. Her father looks startled, rises and turns to leave. The dialog is as follows:
Jane's Father: Yes, I think I'd better be...
Jane: Darling, don't be silly. You're not embarrassed by me.
Why, you've bathed me sometimes...and very nearly spanked me, too,
several times.
Jane's Father: Very nearly.
Jane: Perhaps if you actually had,
I wouldn't be so obstinate.
No great shakes but a fun little moment.
